SeriShield is an agri-tech startup developing sustainable solutions to reduce post-harvest losses of fruits and vegetables by converting silk industry waste into value-added agricultural products. The startup is developing a natural, protein-based edible coating using sericin, a by-product of silk degumming. The coating is designed to reduce moisture loss, control microbial growth, maintain fruit firmness, and extend the shelf life of fresh produce, offering a sustainable alternative to synthetic wax coatings.
At AIC-UASB, SeriShield is developing and validating its sericin-based edible coating technology through standardized sericin extraction, formulation optimization, film characterization, and shelf-life trials on crops such as mango, banana, and tomato.
