Bio-NEST, AIC UAS (B) was started in the month of March, 2021 which is supported and funded by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, GoI. This funding was obtained for the proposal titled “Strengthening of Agri Innovation Center at UASB for Agri Start-ups.”
It is headed by the Project Investigators Dr. Harinikumar K. M. Administrative Officer, UASB and Professor, Department of Plant Biotechnology, UAS(B) and Dr. Veena S Anil, Professor, Department of Plant Biotechnology, UAS(B).
Objectives of the Project:
1.Developing and strengthening the Bio-NEST Agri Innovation Centre to facilitate incubation of startups, so as to translate innovative ideas to commercially viable products from existing scientific leads/technologies in the area of Agriculture.
2.Renovation and extension of the existing building to be utilized as the Nodal Incubation Centre at GKVK Bengaluru with inbuilt lab facilities, meeting rooms, central equipment facilities, a knowledge cell and administration offices.
3.Establish a Knowledge Cell to identify relevant technologies that have potential commercial value for Agriculture business activities and modalities to establish a Knowledge Cell: A unique Knowledge Cell will be established with its hub at the Nodal center of the Bio-NEST incubator.
4.Develop a repository of Biological Material to facilitate innovation and accelerate the product development process by Entrepreneurs.

Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) aims to provide financial assistance to startups for proof of concept, prototype development, product trials, market entry and commercialization. This would nable these startups to graduate to a level where they will be able to raise investments from angel investors or venture capitalists or seek loans from commercial banks or financial institutions.
