Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Section 8, Schedule B, Public Sector Enterprise, set up by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India in 2012 as an interface agency to strengthen and empower the emerging biotech enterprise to undertake strategic research and innovation for translating innovations into commercial products and technologies. BIRAC has nurtured Biotech startups in the country through various initiatives such as funding schemes for startups and entrepreneurs, setting up of specialized bio incubation facilities for biotech startups, establishing various strategic partnerships and contributing at the policy level.
